From preconception to breastfeeding: Co-Creating weight inclusive care with women and healthcare providers: The RADIANT Study

Thank you for your interest in the RADIANT study! So far in this project we have:

  • Heard from 65 women with lived experience of weight stigma in maternity care about the impact of weight stigma on their pregnancy, birth and mothering experience, and their hopes for a better care.
  • Interviewed 24 maternity care providers who practice a ‘weight-inclusive’ approach to understand what is special and different about that approach.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the first phase of the RADIANT study. We are now analysing all of ideas and experiences people shared, with reports coming soon. In the meantime, we’re developing Best Practice Principles for Weight Inclusive Maternity Care. About the RADIANT Study

The RADIANT Study

The RADIANT study is part of the Body Positive Birth program of research, which aims to address weight stigma in maternity care. Weight stigma is discrimination or stereotyping based on a person’s weight and size. It is a pervasive issue in maternity care, with women experiencing ‘shame and blame’.
